Bob Foley Says: Winchester Green Attic’s guidelines say they will only put insulation in walls if there are four or more inches of space. No one measured this ahead of time, relying instead on an inaccurate estimate from my neighbor. The day the work started, I tracked down the head of the crew, Charlie, to ask about this; since he assured me they could still get insulation into the one inch gap, I told him to go ahead.

Cart 0 items Tips & Tools AtiCat is cheaper and easier to install, but in the long run, GF has lasted much more with added benefits. Also, GF is no longer 100% paper as advertised, it is 85%, now. I guess the added Boric and Ammonium make up the rest, which is why I assume it’s so dense. The bad thing about it being so dense is if it gets wet, it will create a smell that will last for weeks or a couple of months. I didn’t realize where the smell came from until I saw the leak from the roof. The good thing is the insulation absorbed all of the rain water and the sheet-rock didn’t get wet. Many pros and cons, but I’m a little happier with GF despite the price and work. I hope this helps.

Every job candidate needs to be able to explain exactly why they’re the right fit for the position. Fiberglass insulation is the most common residential insulation available on the market. Fiberglass is the least expensive blown-in insulation and offers the largest variety available. Blown-in fiberglass often comes in blocks that are blown through a machine into the floor joists of an attic or the interior walls. Fiberglass is usually used as a topper for existing cellulose insulation due to its additional fire-retardance. A tight fit in the stud wall cavity is necessary for the insulation to perform best. Blown-in fiberglass will need to be formed by code away from hot lights or other electrical equipment that produces heat.

The Home Insulation Program was beset by controversy when the deaths of four workers in separate incidents were linked to the program and electricians warned that poor installation of metallic foil insulation could lead to further deaths or injury through electrocution. In response, the program was discontinued on 19 February 2010 and was replaced, for the interim, by the Insulation Workers’ Adjustment Package which provided assistance to support the retention of insulation workers in the insulation industry or related industries until the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme commenced on 1 June 2010.
